About Tattoo From Photo

Tattoo From Photo is a small studio tool for one specific job: turning a photo you cannot replace into tattoo line art, and handing your artist a file that fits the size you actually want. It was built for memorial work first — pets, parents, a keepsake — because that is where a generic design fails hardest.

Why we built this

Most photo-to-tattoo tools are built to produce more options. That is useful when you are browsing. It is not useful when you have one photo of a dog who was there for fourteen years, or one portrait of your father, and you are trying to decide whether the image can become a tattoo at all.

The questions that matter in that moment are not “which style is trending”. They are: will the face still read at 8 cm? Will the fur turn into a grey patch? Will the artist have to redraw the whole thing? Will it still look like them after it heals? We built the tool around those questions, not around a gallery.

What we do

Start with one photo

You upload one clear subject. The tool removes the background, traces a clean outline, and lets you compare a few free style previews before you pay. The paid output is line art: a full-size PNG and a 300 DPI stencil PDF, printed at the width you choose.

Check the photo before you pay

The photo check measures resolution, contrast, background clutter and how much of the frame the subject fills — in your browser, without uploading the file. It is a screen, not a guarantee. It tells you which problem to fix first: crop, reshoot, or choose a simpler design.

Hand your artist a file that fits

A tattoo is not printed at screen size. The stencil is exported at the exact width in centimetres, mirrored for transfer, and set to 300 DPI. The artist handoff checks explain what to bring, what to ask, and what your artist will likely redraw.

What we do not claim

How we test

We test the pipeline on sample photos and compare the output with the source. The stencil is specified at 300 DPI and exact width; a published physical print test is still to come. We are building a larger, published benchmark: 300 photos rated by tattoo artists, and a size atlas that shows what survives at 5, 8, 12 and 18 cm. Until those are published, treat our size guidance as a practical starting point, not a lab result. The methodology page is the honest version of what we know today.

Who we are

Tattoo From Photo is run by Duan Studio, an independent web studio. The site, the checks and the exports are built by a small team; we do not use stock customer stories or invented artist reviews. If a page says “we tested”, it means we ran the test and kept the file.

Contact

Questions, corrections or a photo that did not convert the way you expected: email support@tattoofromphoto.ink. We reply within one business day. If you are a tattoo artist and want to review a guide or join the benchmark, use the same address and put “artist review” in the subject.
