Tattoo from photo: turn a picture into a tattoo design
Upload a photo, pick a detail level, and get black-and-white tattoo linework you can show your artist or print as a true-size stencil. Three previews a day are free; no account needed.
Try it free — upload a photoHow it works (3 steps)
- Upload a sharp JPG, PNG or WebP (portrait, pet, flower, landmark).
- Choose detail — Clean (bold, fewer lines), Balanced, or Fine (more interior lines for portraits).
- Generate and export — preview free; unlock for full-resolution PNG and a 300 DPI PDF printed at the exact size you choose.
Which photo gives the best tattoo?
- One main subject, in focus, with even light. Side-lit faces lose an eye; flat light keeps both.
- Crop close: the subject should fill at least half the frame.
- Pets: eye level, eyes sharp. Memorial photos from phones work if they are not heavily filtered.
- Avoid tiny group shots — at 8 cm wide, a face smaller than a thumbnail becomes a smudge.

When another tool is the better pick
If you only need an edge-detected outline of an existing drawing and want to pay nothing, Ink Studio AI or MakeLineArt are fine. If you work all day next to a thermal printer on an iPhone, StencilPro or Stencify fit that workflow. We focus on photos of real subjects (people, pets, places) turned into artist-ready linework, with a one-time $4.99 pack instead of a subscription.

FAQ
Is it free?
Yes — three previews a day per device, no sign-up. Downloads (full-resolution PNG and the 300 DPI PDF) need a pack: $4.99 for 20 generations, $9.99 for 50, or $9.90/month for 100.
Will my tattoo artist use it?
Most artists redraw or adjust a design before tattooing. A clean linework file is a strong reference and saves a consultation; bring the original photo too.
Can I use a photo of someone else?
Only with their permission. Photos of minors, nudity and celebrities are blocked by our safety check.
Do you keep my photos?
Results are cached for up to 3 days to avoid charging you twice for the same image, then deleted. See the privacy page.
