How Tattoo From Photo works
Tattoo From Photo turns a photo you care about into a tattoo design you can bring to your artist. Compare four styles side by side, see the design on the spot where it will sit, and download a full-size PNG and a print-ready stencil PDF.
Step by step
- Choose a photo. A pet, a portrait, a home, a keepsake. Or try one of ours (cat, dog, portrait). Only upload photos you have the rights to use. See photo tips for light, angle and crop.
- Compare styles. Fine-line, blackwork, watercolor and minimal previews are drawn in your browser; the photo stays on your device for these previews.
- Generate AI line art (optional). It removes the background and draws a clean outline. This step sends the photo to our server for processing.
- Try it on. Pick the placement (forearm, wrist, shoulder, ankle, back), the width in cm, the angle and a skin tone. The placement preview is to scale on an average adult limb, good for choosing size and angle, not a photo-real render.
- Add a name or dates (optional). Text you type appears under the design in the preview and in your download.
- Download. Get the print-ready PDF or the full-size PNG with a pack. Already paid? Enter your unlock code; it is kept in your browser's local storage.
Bring the PDF to your artist as a reference. They adapt it to your skin and placement.
Before you book your artist
Most people arrive with one photo that matters: a dog who was there for years, a grandmother's portrait, the house they grew up in. Use the site to settle three questions before the appointment: which style suits the photo (tattoo styles), where it goes (placement guide) and how big it should be (size by placement). Then bring the PDF and your chosen size to the consultation.

Prices in US dollars; Dodo Payments (merchant of record) adds local sales tax or VAT at checkout where it applies. Personal and commercial licence included, including handing the design to your tattoo artist. Limits and data
- A failed generation never uses a credit; it goes back on your code automatically.
- The design keeps the photo's proportions and main features. It is a line drawing, not a portrait. A blurry photo still gives a silhouette; fine detail will not survive.
- Style previews and the try-on never leave your device. For AI line art, the photo is processed on our server and the original upload is not stored; the finished design is cached for up to 3 days for re-download, then deleted. Nothing is used for training or sold. Photos pass an automated safety filter first.
- Refunds: email within 7 days of a charge; used no more than 3 designs from that purchase means a full refund. Details: refund policy.
